My Princess’s press conference
The press conference was held on Monday afternoon at Seoul’s Lotte Hotel in the Sogong-dong neighborhood.
Song and Kim have attracted quite a lot of buzz since they were cast (though to be honest, it’s more for their looks and fame than, say, their acting resumés). Kim Tae-hee admitted, “I did worry about whether I’d be suited for it,” because she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to do the Lee Seol character justice.
But really, I think Kim’s forte is romantic comedy; she has a very likable real-life persona (in my opinion), and I always want to like her roles a lot more than I do. It’s when she’s trying to project herself as a serious actor or a tough type that she is hard to connect with, but it seems she’s been cast well here.
Song plays a foreign diplomat and the sole heir to a chaebol corporation, landing him in firm Prince Charming territory. (I’m really hoping he can find something to add to this oft-used stock character — perhaps a dormant talent for comedic acting? I do remember him from way back in the day when he did the sitcom Three Men, Three Women, but it’s been forever and a day since he’s done comic fare.)
SSH & KTH explains why he/she participates in a romantic comedy MY PRINCESS.
SSH: Because of KTH and Park Ye Jin are both Korean’s most beautiful women, being able to work with them, I feel very happy. Audience giving us this name*, what I can say, is thank you. We will have a great time working together. We will give an even stronger performance before the series air.
KTH: Being able to be named as the onscreen couple that will cause your pupil to dilate and as the best onscreen couple is a compliment. I feel very delighted. I hope that when the audience watches the drama, it will be able to satisfy some of the audience’s fantasy.
SSH: After I am discharged, the roles I have been playing are pretty heavy duty and serious. Of course, I am playing myself and I also like the roles. Initially, I want to play more macho type of roles which is why I am in this outfit and look. Now, I want to play a more carefree, energetic character. Luckily, I came across this drama so I decided that I have to participate in it.
KTH: Before I started making this drama, I watched a lot of Hollywood comedies and Korean drama. But I didn’t watch Princess Diaries. After watching so many comedies, none of the comedic roles seem to be aligned with my role in My Princess, so did not provide much help. Instead, I went back and looked at the cell phone commercial I made with Hyun Bin and Won Bin. In that commercial, the silliness that I professed is more similar to the character I am playing in My Princess. I watched commercial, NGs, and trailers and I got some direction.
SSH: I hope ratings will be high. High ratings will be a treat to our hardworking efforts. Even if ratings are mediocre, I will not feel disappointed. I will continue to work hard till the very end. I did not predict how high I want the ratings to be. I hope it is good.
